Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School was full of activity Monday morning as students participated in a series of events designed to hone leadership skills and community awareness.
Students in seventh and eighth grade kicked off their day with a focus on digital wellness and collaboration. Discussions on the impact of technology on their individual values through an interactive exercise helped students to understand how technology is interwoven into their lives. Using green and yellow dots, they explored how various values are either supported or hindered by technology usage. This discussion sparked critical thinking about their online habits and how to make conscious choices that align with their personal values.
Afterwards, students participated in a simulated plane crash adventure in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness presented them with a demanding survival scenario. Working in teams, they prioritized a list of salvaged items, strategizing for their survival in the harsh winter conditions. This exercise strengthened teamwork and resourcefulness.
Students in grades 9-12 were presented with a stark reality check about the dangers of distracted driving with a poignant and impactful assembly by the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Jacy Good and Steve Johnson, advocates for distraction-free roads, shared their personal tragedy caused by a distracted driver. Their moving presentation undoubtedly instilled a sense of responsibility in the students, reminding them of the importance of safe driving practices.
By participating in these activities, Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School students gained valuable skills and insights. From the digital wellness discussions to the collaborative survival scenario and the presentation on distracted driving, these experiences give students the resources they need to be responsible and informed citizens.
