Lake George Elementary Earns Prestigious Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll Distinction

Lake George Elementary School (LGES) has achieved a remarkable distinction, being named a 2024 Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll school. This prestigious recognition acknowledges the school’s dedication to creating leadership opportunities for students while achieving exceptional academic results.

The Leader in Me program empowers students to develop the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. Lake George Elementary has not only implemented this program with thoroughness but has also continued to achieve high academic standards.

In a letter to Jim Conway, LGES principal, Sean Covey, son of Stephen Covey and a leader in the Leader in Me movement, expressed his “deep respect and humility” for the accomplishment. He highlighted Lake George Elementary as an example for Leader in Me schools worldwide.

The Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll designation is highly selective. Schools must maintain Lighthouse School Certification while demonstrating outstanding academic growth or proficiency as measured by independent data analysis. Schooldigger.com, a trusted resource for school performance information, uses a percentile ranking system to compare schools within the state.

To qualify for this honor, a school must rank at or above the 85th percentile for combined state proficiency standards. Additionally, schools must be in the 50th percentile or higher and demonstrate a 5% growth from the previous year.

Lake George Elementary surpassed both criteria with a remarkable percentile ranking of 91.4 in 2024, a significant jump from 85.9 in 2023. This achievement showcases LGES’ commitment to academic excellence alongside leadership development.

The school is recognized as the highest-performing elementary school in the capital district, a reflection of the dedication and hard work of the exceptional staff. Through unwavering support and personalized instruction, teachers and staff members ensure that all students thrive and achieve their full potential.

“While test scores are one important indicator, I’m equally proud of our students’ exceptional participation and talent in the arts and music,” said Jim Conway, LGES principal. “ Our students’ achievements outside the classroom are equally valuable. I’m very proud of our students’ academic progress and this is evident in these diverse areas of success.”
