Building Connections in the Classroom

Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School English teacher Kaylee Seymour is dedicated to creating a learning environment where students feel empowered to explore their identities and connect with their peers. To kick off the school year, Seymour’s 7th-grade class engaged in a series of interactive stations designed to delve into the complex topic of self-perception versus how others perceive us.

Through a variety of group activities, students were encouraged to reflect on their own views of themselves and compare them to the perspectives of others. These stations provided a fun and engaging way for students to explore important concepts that would lay the foundation for future lessons.

Seymour believes that creating opportunities for engagement and interaction is crucial for middle school students. “Finding ways to create engagement and interaction are my favorite parts of being in the middle-school classroom because it helps students build meaningful connections and foster a deeper understanding of who they are, which is something that can be especially challenging at this stage,” she explained.

By starting the year with these interactive activities, Seymour is setting the stage for a year of growth, self-discovery, and meaningful connections for her students.
