Lake George Students Excel in Financial Literacy Competition

Students in the Lake George School District recently demonstrated exceptional financial literacy skills in the annual Budget Challenge competition. The program, a collaboration between the district’s Business Education Department and TCT Credit Union, provides students with hands-on experience in budgeting, investing, and managing finances.

“We are incredibly proud of our student’s achievements in this year’s Budget Challenge,” said Brenda Hoffman, personal finance teacher. “This partnership provides learning opportunities that equip our students with essential life skills.”

Owen Rajeski emerged as a top performer, achieving a remarkable overall score of 100%. His success was attributed to his consistent effort across various aspects of the competition, including meticulous budget tracking, wise investment choices, timely bill payments, responsible credit use, and active engagement in the program.

To recognize these outstanding achievements, TCT Credit Union awarded cash prizes to the top winners:

1st Place: Owen Rajeski – $75

2nd Place: Prysilla Seale – $50

The winners are encouraged to use their prize money wisely for savings or investment purposes, such as depositing it into a savings or money market account, investing in a savings bond (I-bond), or starting to invest through reputable platforms like TD Ameritrade or E-Trade, which are recommended for beginners. This approach emphasizes the importance of developing sound financial habits early on, even with smaller amounts of money.

The Business Education Department looks forward to continuing this valuable partnership with TCT Credit Union and providing even more students with the opportunity to benefit from this impactful financial education program.
