Lake George Central School District was recently awarded a grant in partnership with Glens Falls Hospital as a part of the Community Cancer Prevention in Action Program (CPiA). The district received outdoor shade tents, umbrellas, sunscreen, white bucket hats for elementary school students, and more to protect both students and staff. Now designated as a “CPiA Sun Safer School District” students are better protected from the dangers of UV rays.
Umbrellas have been added to tables near the athletic fields, specifically at the track and tennis courts. They can also be relocated if needed. The district has many new pop up tents too that are more flexible for events and field trips to create shade opportunities.
“It has been a pleasure partnering with Lake George Central School District to increase awareness of the dangers of UV rays and to assist with reducing UV exposures on your campuses,” said Lauralee Tucker Program Coordinator of CPiA.
Students at LGES were able to see UV protection in action from some of the staff members who put on a colorful fashion show on Monday, April 22.
“Last year, the district and board of education worked to establish a policy in support of measures the district can take to help prevent skin cancer,” said Superintendent Luthringer.
“Through this policy and the partnership with the CPiA program at Glens Falls Hospital we have been able to put in place a number of different measures in support of sun safety for our students. By becoming a “Sun Safe” campus we are creating an environment that helps our students to avoid overexposure to the sun when outdoors.”
