Lake George Central School District is thrilled to announce the unveiling of its new “LG” logo and mascot “Georgie.” This marks a significant step in the district’s commitment to a refreshed identity with modern rebranding in support of our Lakers nickname.
“Georgie” – Lake George’s own “Nessie,” is a local legend, interwoven with the lore of Lake George, with “sightings” that date back to 1904. Some community members may also remember an early “Georgie” mascot that was a significant part of the elementary school’s past starting in 1998.
In addition to “Georgie,” an additional redesigned logo features a modernized “L-G” with the unmistakable Adirondack region aesthetic, symbolizing the school’s connection to our natural surroundings.
In January 2023, 9 students and members of the administration began meeting to share ideas about the possibility of introducing a new mascot. Students were tasked with discussing a mascot with their peers and brought ideas from students, teachers, and staff members back to the committee. After engaging in the student-led process over the course of the year, the students expressed a desire for a character, like Georgie.
“I feel it’s really important for schools to promote student involvement,” said Sophomore Aazrum Tarar. “I believe that students now and in future generations will look at our school mascot and think, “Hey, that’s us.” and be proud of who we are and the work we put into this.
In collaboration with graphic artists from Jostens, the student representatives brainstormed several redesigns to bring the Georgie to life in a way that captures the essence of their favorite local legend.
“We are excited to introduce Georgie as our official mascot along with our refreshed brand. Georgie is a part of our history, and embodies the strength of our students,” said Superintendent John Luthringer. “I am so proud of the collaborative effort and creativity of our student body, and we believe Georgie will become a symbol within our school and the greater community.”
