Monster Board Career Center -Online access to 48,000 jobs, career information and names/locations of hundreds of employers.

DISCOVER System -- a web-based resource covering the entire career preparation continuum, from learning about self and matching self to suitable career areas to identifying college majors that will prepare for a specific career and the colleges that offer those majors. Before you can log on to the Discover Website, you will need to pick up a username "Token" from the Counseling Center.  This Token provides full access to all of the resources available on the site including Interest Inventories, College Searches, Occupational Descriptions, and more.  Don't let this extra step stop you from checking out this web site. You'll find it to be a very useful resource.

	Career InfoNet -- A comprehensive source of occupational and economic information to help you make informed career decisions. Contains lists of fastest growing jobs, highest paying jobs, etc. by level of education.
	Occupational Outlook Handbook -- Provides in-depth descriptions of careers including nature of the work, training requirements, expected earnings and job availability.  Search by job title or alphabetical listing (index of job titles) or by job cluster.
	Military Career Guide -- The leading career information resource for the military world of work. Details 152 enlisted and officer occupations with comparable civilian counterpart for every applicable military occupation. Also describes training, advancement, and educational opportunities within each of the major Services -- Army Army ROTC, Navy, Navy ROTC, Air Force  Air Force ROTC, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
	Career Cruising -- An excellent site that includes interviews with professionals in over 400 occupations along with an interest inventory to identify jobs that match your interests.  Very user-friendly.  Visit your counselor for Password information.

Lake George Jr-Sr High School Career Information

Career development is long term and broad ranging process that encompasses each student's development of work related competencies, self-awareness, and knowledge about the world of work. The Counseling Department encourages the process of career planning throughout the jr-sr high school years.  This is accomplished in many ways as indicated in the outline below.

• 8th Grade
  Students take EXPLORE test --includes interest inventory and world-of-work information.
  Individual Planning Meeting with Parents -- involves creating a four-year high school plan and a discussion of   current career interests.
  Career planning presentations given in Home and Career Classes.
• 10th Grade
  Students encouraged to take PLAN test --similar to EXPLORE test but includes more college preparatory information.
  Individual Planning Meeting with parents --checks progress since 8th grade and fine tunes course selections for final two years of high school in light of current career plans.
  VOTEC tours -- students learn about the variety of career and technical education (CTE) training programs available through BOCES.  Interested students tour the facilities focusing on specific programs of interest.
• 11th-12th Grades
  Job Shadowing-- partnerships with several local organizations provide opportunities for students to job shadow for a day.   Matches are made based on student preferences.
  CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs are available in over 20 disciplines.
  CEIP (Career Exploratory Internship Program) -- allows seniors to gain valuable experience in work settings that they choose.  Transportation to and from work sites is the responsibility of the student. 
• Other Opportunities
  Curriculum based career investigation--a growing number of classes at Lake George provide students with career information through research based assignments or reports.
  Internship Programs-- Lake George currently has two exploratory programs that place students in a wide variety of occupational settings both as a means to develop their job skills and to provide more in-depth career exploration.
     

Lake George Jr-Sr High School has a wide variety of career exploration and development opportunities available to its students ranging from single-day job shadowing experiences to two year vocational training programs offered through regional BOCES centers.
