Protecting an Excel Spreadsheet |
To password protect an Excel 2000
spreadsheet, follow these steps: |
Before you begin, note that YOU are responsible
for your password and you will have to remember it.
1) First, save the file you are working on.
2) On the tool bar, Go to "Tools" >
"Protection" > "Protect Sheet".
3) Make sure everything is checked.
3) Click OK and enter a password when prompted, and enter it
again to confirm it.
4) Save the spreadsheet.
5) Now when you try to change or add anything, you will get a
"Read-Only" error. This means that without
removing the password protection, all you can do is view the
spreadsheet.
Note that if you have multiple sheets in an excel file;
whichever sheet you are on when you apply the password
protection is the only sheet that will be password protected.
6) To disable password protection so you can work on the
sheet, on the toolbar, go to "Tools" >
"Protection" > "Unprotect Sheet".
7) Enter the password when prompted.
8) The spreadsheet will remain unprotected until you close out
of Excel.
